VegetablesTaste the Valley at an All-Local Dinner: July 23rd

The Hillside Manor Restaurant in Kingston, NY is pleased to bring you our first "30 Mile Menu" dining event on Friday July 23rd at 6:00pm. This dinner will showcase many local food and beverage producers, with every item on the menu coming from within a 30 mile radius of our restaurant. Dinner guests will enjoy a 1 hour cocktail reception on our patio and then dine at a communal table for a 4 course tasting event in the Prive Lounge & Private Dining Room. There will be an open wine & beer bar for the entire evening which will highlight some of the Hudson Valley's best wines and beers.

This dinner is limited to 75 guests. The price is $60 per person which includes all food, wine, beer, tax, and gratuity. We encourage you to reserve your seats as soon as possible. Call 389-7500 or 331-4386 to speak to Jim about reservations.

"What is a 30 Mile Menu?"
-- A 30 mile menu means that all of the ingredients used for the dinner come from within a 30 mile radius of the restaurant. It is our way of highlighting the abundant food resources that can be found within our local community.

"What local businesses will you be using for the event?"

-- All of the meats used in the hors d'oeuvres and entrees will come from Fleisher's Grass-fed & Organic Meats (Kingston). Our produce will be provided by several local farms that are known for their outstanding crops Gill's Farm (Hurley), Davenport Farm (Stone Ridge), Wallkill View Farm (New Paltz), Saunderskill Farm (Accord), Migliorelli Farm (Tivoli) and the Woodcrest Community (Rifton). Bread Alone (Boiceville) and Coach Dairy Farm (Pine Plains) will be featured in our tastings as well. We will be offering a selection of wines from Millbrook Vineyards (Millbrook) and there will be a vineyard representative on hand to speak with our guests about the winery and its wine-making process. Keegan Ales (Kingston) will provide the beer selection for the night and owner Tommy Keegan will be joining our guests to talk them through a sampling of all of his great brews. We are currently working on adding more local products to this farmers feast.

"What is the purpose of eating local?"
-- The benefits are numerous but some of the main reasons to eat and/or buy local are:
1) the consumer then receives the freshest, most seasonally appropriate food items on the market which translates into a much healthier, more flavorful dining experience
2) supporting local businesses such as farms and food producers promotes local sustainability and leads to more of your money being kept in your community -- this is a win-win situation for both consumer and business owner
3) eating/buying local minimizes the environmental impact that trucking crops from around the country and world can have on our earth.

The Hillside Manor Restaurant is a locally-owned, family-owned restaurant that has been a part of the Kingston community for 26 years. Every member of the Demosthenes family lives, works and does business in the Kingston area. For the past two decades we have prided ourselves on offering customers some of the freshest, highest-quality dining in the Hudson Valley. Whenever possible we serve local, seasonally appropriate menu choices. Undertaking this 30 Mile Menu dinner is our way of challenging ourselves to do even more, to do it better and to do it even closer to home! We believe that the atmosphere of the cocktail reception, the communal table, our local producers being on hand for questions and the diversity of our dinner guests will make this dinner an exciting and unique event. Locavores won't want to miss this!
